Three-Years Ago (20-November-2015) — Cuba

Gone to See Cuba 2011 People to People Cultural Exchange. Day 2 of a Street Photography Workshop led by Steve Simon.

Morning, afternoon, and evening street photography walkabouts in Old Havana. Lots of street vendors and street art. I was surprised to see Christmas trees in Havana. I guess religion didn’t go away.

Backyard Autumn Nature in New Jersey.

I thought there may be some colors at dawn and sunrise so set up the Garmin VIRB-360 camera about half an hour before sunrise. I also went out at sunrise with a Fuji X-T2 camera and 16 mm f/1.4 lens.

Eleven-Years Ago (18-November-2007) — Hawaii

Gone to See Hawaii. Big Island Photography Workshop with Thom Hogan. Day 1: Kailua Kona.

After checking into our hotel, a few of us walked down to the beach for sunset. I hoped to see the “Green Flash” like I did the last time I was in Hawaii. The conditions were not right, but I did get some good sunset images. I processed these images using newer, current tools. You can see earlier versions here.

Home Cooking. Gingerbread Loaf.

Gingerbread Loaf Recipe: Sprouted Wheat Flour (3 cups); Rolled Oatmeal (1 cup); Flax Seed (1/4 cup); Ginger Powder (1 tbs); Crystallized Ginger (1 tbs); Cinnamon Powder (1 tbs); Clove Powder (1 tsp); Nutmeg Powder (1 tsp); dry milk (1/4 cup); salt (1 tsp); egg (1 large); walnut oil (2 tbs); water (1 cup); Maple syrup (1/3 cup). Above ingredients added to Panasonic Bread Bakery. Yeast (2 tsp) added to yeast hopper and the unit set for Whole Wheat Bread (Rapid) and started. Three hours later, I removed the loaf of bread. It rose to within 2 inches from the top of the pan — and the house smelled of gingerbread. I only let it cool a few minutes before slicing a piece. It was good, but next time I will add even more ginger.

I set up a Garmin VIRB-360 camera to record the bread making process for a time-lapse video. Three versions, a 360 degree panorama, a little planet and a tunnel view. The tunnel view makes my waist look 3 times as large.

Backyard Autumn Nighttime Sky Over New Jersey.

Earlier in the evening it didn’t look promising for a clear sky. I checked again after midnight, and did see Orion and some other stars. I set up two cameras same as the previous clear nights to take images for star trails, and if lucky catch a launch of a rocket from Virginia at 04:01. Unfortunately, I only got 15 minutes of clear skies before the clouds rolled back in. I did check again at 04:00 for 5 minutes, but it was still overcast and I didn’t see the launch.
