One-Year Ago (04-August-2014) — Sweden

Gone to See Europe 2014. Day 65: Semester at Sea, Summer 2014 Semester Voyage. Stockholm, Sweden.

After spending an in-port “classroom day” in Stockholm, the MV Explorer departed at 17:30. I set up a couple of cameras to record images for a time-lapse video for our passage through the Stockholm archipelago.  The music Semester at Sea Alma Mater “Off to Sea — The World”  is by the voyage resident musician John M. Rosenberg.

Five-Years Ago (02-August-2010) — Utah and Nevada

Gone to See America August 2010 Road Trip. Day 2: Green River, Utah to Great Basin National Park, Nevada.

I went back to Crystal Geyser in the morning since I didn’t see it erupt the previous evening. The interesting thing about Crystal Geyser is that it is a cold geyser, powered by carbon dioxide. I did see a minor eruption, then hit the road for Great Basin National Park in Utah. I arrived at the Lehman Caves visitor center just in time for the final tour of the day.

Three-Years Ago (31-July-2012) — Pennsylvania

Last Day at Merck.

I’ve now been retired from Merck for three years. I worked at Merck in Rahway, New Jersey; Boulder, Colorado; and West Point, Pennsylvania for over 27 years. In the three years since I retired I have visited 27 different countries (several more than once) and 44 states. I have been at sea for two Semester at Sea, Enrichment Voyages;  two Semester at Sea, Semester Voyages; and two Hurtigruten voyages (one in Norway, and one to Antarctica). I also returned to Argentina and Chile for a photography trip with Thom Hogan, and did two Iceland photography safari’s (one summer, one winter) with Mike Hagen. During this time I have taken over 800K images. Not all of the images have made it into my posts yet…

Two-Years Ago (29-July-2013) — Iceland

Gone to See Iceland 2013 Photography Safari with Mike Hagen. Day 0: Reykjavik.

The day before the Iceland Photography Safari started, I went on a walkabout in Reykjavik. The morning was cloudy with some light rain when I came across a cat sitting in front of the famous Hallgrímskirkja (church of Hallgrímur). In the evening, I walked along the harbor to see Sólfar, the Sun Voyager steel sculpture. From wikipedia “Sun Voyager is a dreamboat, an ode to the sun. Intrinsically, it contains within itself the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.” The sun didn’t set until after 22:00 (10 PM).
