Four-Years Ago (28-November-2014) — Florida

Gone to See Florida Fall 2014 Road Trip. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.

Great Blue Heron appearing to walk on water as it comes in for a landing along Blackpoint Wildlife Drive. I’ve also included  slide shows with some of the other birds present that day: Anhinga, Black Vulture, Double-breasted Cormorant, Great Egret, Hawk, Osprey (with a fish), Tricolored Heron, and Turkey Vulture. Note that some of the Vulture images are graphic.

Three-Years Ago (24-November-2015) — Cuba

Gone to See Cuba 2011 People to People Cultural Exchange. Day 6 of a Street Photography Workshop led by Steve Simon.

I spent some of the day using the Astro tripod head to do 360 degree images and 360 degree time-lapse videos. First stop was the Plaza de San Francisco (Saint Francis of Assisi). Later we did a walk along the Malecón (Avenida de Maceo) — actually across the street from the seawall since there were very large waves crashing against the seawall. Here I did a straight time-lapse video of the traffic and waves. At one point a woman walking along the seawall decides that the waves are too big and crosses the avenue.

Home Cooking. Gingerbread Loaf.

Gingerbread Loaf Recipe: Sprouted Wheat Flour (3 cups); Rolled Oatmeal (1 cup); Flax Seed (1/4 cup); Ginger Powder (1 tbs); Crystallized Ginger (1 tbs); Cinnamon Powder (1 tbs); Clove Powder (1 tsp); Nutmeg Powder (1 tsp); dry milk (1/4 cup); salt (1 tsp); egg (1 large); walnut oil (2 tbs); water (1 cup); Maple syrup (1/3 cup). Above ingredients added to Panasonic Bread Bakery. Yeast (2 tsp) added to yeast hopper and the unit set for Whole Wheat Bread (Rapid) and started. Three hours later, I removed the loaf of bread. It rose to within 2 inches from the top of the pan — and the house smelled of gingerbread. I only let it cool a few minutes before slicing a piece. It was good, but next time I will add even more ginger.

I set up a Garmin VIRB-360 camera to record the bread making process for a time-lapse video. Three versions, a 360 degree panorama, a little planet and a tunnel view. The tunnel view makes my waist look 3 times as large.

Home Cooking: Apple – Pomegranate Crisp.

A friend told me she just made Apple Crisp, and ate the batch in one sitting. It made me hungry. I checked the kitchen, and found the ingredients. The recipe is modified from many sources: First I peeled, cored, dewormed, and sliced eight slightly bruised apples. I added the juice of one lime to prevent the apples from browning, then the seeds from one pomegranate. The apple slices and pomegranate seeds were layered into a buttered glass casserole dish (8 x 13 inch). While preparing the topping, the oven was preheated to 375° F (190° C). I prepared the topping from sprouted wheat flour (3/4 cup), rolled oats (3/4 cup), maple syrup (1/2 cup), walnut oil (1/4 cup), cinnamon powder (1 tbs), clove powder (1 tsp), ginger powder (1 tsp), and nutmeg powder (1 tsp). The topping ingredients were mixed by hand and then layered over the apple slices and pomegranate seeds. The batch was baked in the preheated 375° F oven for 45 minutes (until the topping was brown and crispy). I had a hard time waiting for it to cool down to eat.

Thanks to Chloé for the suggestion to use Maple Syrup and Walnut Oil.
