Gone to See Europe 2014. Day 40: Semester at Sea, Summer 2014 Semester Voyage. Dublin, Ireland.
Sunset over the Port of Dublin from the Deck of the MV Explorer. Composite of 3 images taken with a Fuji XT1 camera and Zeiss 12 mm f/2.8 lens (ISO 200, 12 mm, f/16). Raw image processed with Capture One Pro, Nik HDR Efex Pro, Nik Define, and Photoshop CC 2014.
I saw a report on the news that 6+ inches of rain fell in 12 hours in the mountains above Boulder with flash flooding coming down several of the canyons. A lot more water than when I took this image of Boulder Canyon Falls (Spring 2007). HDR composite of 5 images taken with a Nikon D200 and 12-24 mm f/4 lens (ISO 200, 12 mm, f/4). Google/NIK HDR Efex Pro 2.
Gone to See Patagonia 2010/2011. Photography Workshop with Thom Hogan. Day 6: Hosteria El Pilar, El Chalten, Laguna Torre, Parque Nacional Los Glaciaries.
Photo Techniques. High Dynamic Range (HDR) Image Processing.
I continue to evaluate and compare several HDR processing programs. The images were taken on a hike from El Chalten to Laguna Torre in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares while on a Photography Workshop in Patagonia with Thom Hogan on 01-January-2011. The first three images are composites of 5 images processed with Photoshop CS5 HDR Pro, Photomatix, and NIK HDR Efex Pro. The last two images are single image HDR processed with Capture One Pro and DxO. Of these I like the image from NIK HDR Efex Pro best.
Gone to See North America Road Trip. Day 22: Anchorage to Burwash Landing on the Alaska-Canada Highway. Yukon, Canada.
Derelict Fishing Boat . Upon completion of ANPAT 9, I started my return trip from Anchorage Alaska through Canada along the Alaska-Canada (ALCAN) highway. The first night I stopped at a RV park in Burwash Landing, Yukon Canada. The RV park is right on the bank of Kluane Lake. I noticed this derelict fishing boat right behind my RV, and thought that it looked interesting. It was overcast, and starting to get dark so I bracketed the exposures. I processed the images with Photomatix Pro, and pushed the saturation to get a colorful autumn look. Even though this may be considered by some as a “highly distorted reality” HDR, I like the effect for this image. I have also included an unprocessed single exposure version for comparison.
Intersting note if you search the net for images in and around Burwash Landing and Lake Kluane you will find many images of this boat, and see how it has decayed over the years.
Gone to See Central America and the Panama Canal. Semester at Sea Spring 2011 Enrichment Voyage. Ultimate Travel Photography Workshop II with Michael Mariant. Day 1: Depart San Diego; Travel to Ensenada, Mexico; Embarkation on the MV Explorer.
HDR composite of images of Sunrise over San Diego taken from my hotel room. Three images were taken with a Leica X1 camera (+2, 0, -2 EV) just as the sun started to show above the mountains to the east. The first image was processed with HDR Express, using its Artistic default. The second image was processed with Photomatix Pro using the Compressor Deep settings.
We left San Diego at about 11:00 by bus for Ensenada, Mexico. Once we arrived at the cruise line port we embarked on the MV Explorer to begin the Spring Enrichment Voyage to Central America and Panama Canal. It was good to see many friends from the Caribbean Enrichment Voyage and Ultimate Travel Photography Workshop I (UTPW-I) on board the ship.
After the ship departed Ensenada for Cabo San Lucas there was a small green flash at sunset. The image was taken with a Leica V-Lux 20 camera (200 mm equiv). This is a good omen for the Voyage!!!
