Friday (20-January-2017) — New Jersey

Backyard Winter Sky in New Jersey. Red Clouds at Dawn.

From my bedroom window and out of the corner of my eye, I saw the sky light up at dawn. I rushed to get a camera with a wider angle lens and got out just in time to catch this from my back door. The colors faded within minutes. Two versions, one 9 x 16 format, the other 4 x 5 and includes the moon. Let me know which you like best.

Raw image processed with Capture One Pro, Nik Define, and Photoshop CC.

Six-Years Ago (02-January-2011) — Argentina

Gone to See Patagonia 2010/2011. Photography Workshop with Thom Hogan. Day 7: Hosteria El Pilar.

Silhouette of Mount Fitzroy at dusk from Hosteria El Pilar in El Chalten. We had just finished the main dinner course and our hosts were bringing out the dessert. We saw this developing out the window, and all of us ran outside to take some pictures. I only had my point and shoot camera in my pocket and was not going to take the time to go back to my room not knowing how long the colorful display of clouds would last. “The best camera is the one with you”. I like the version that +Thomas Paris took and he made some beautiful prints. Image taken with a Leica D-Lux 5 camera (ISO 80, 19.2 mm, f/5.6, 1/100 sec).
