Springtime Backyard Nature in New Jersey.

It often seems that animals only want to look away and/or show their backside as soon as they see a camera lens.

Springtime Backyard Nature in New Jersey.

Some bigger birds stopped by the new bird feeders. Actually, they stayed on the ground below the feeder to work on the spilled seeds. First a male, then female Northern Cardinal. They were soon followed by a Blue Jay that chased the Cardinals away. After the Blue Jay left, a Mourning Dove showed up. Only small birds worked the bird feeders. The Black Crows stayed out in the grass, searching for insects.

Early Springtime in New Jersey.

Colorful clouds at dawn, rye bread, chipping sparrows, and a local cat. When the cat showed up, the small birds disappeared.

Early Springtime Backyard Nature and A Geology Walk at Rock Mill Preserve.

Several small birds working the bird feeder greeted me in the morning. I switched to a Nikon D4 camera and 600 mm f/4 lens on a Wembly tripod just inside the patio door. The camera is just past the minimum focus distance for this camera/lens combination. Birds captured include: Tufted Titmouse, Black Eyed Junco, Chipping Sparrow, House Finch, American Robin, and Black Crow. Later, in the afternoon I attended a monthly “Sunday Walk in the Park” events. This month the subject was the geology in central New Jersey and took place at Rock Mill Preserve, located within walking distance from my house.

Early Springtime Backyard Nature in New Jersey.

I installed a bird-feeder next to my back patio. It took a day for some small birds (Chipping Sparrow) to find it. I wonder how long it will be before the squirrels (and bear) stop by. I will put up a wildlife camera and see what type of critters I can catch. Some Forsythia has started to bloom. Compare the image from today with the same view seven years ago. Finally, some daffodils from today.
