Raw image processed with Capture One Pro, Focus Magic, and Photoshop CS5. The Male Broad-tailed Hummingbirds arrive first in the spring to define their territories. Spring comes late at nearly 9000 feet to Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. You hear the hummingbirds long before you finally see them (even with the car windows closed).
During a winter visit to Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, I observed these two folks out in the middle of the frozen lake. What do you think that they are doing? To give you a hint, they are not ice fishing, but it does have to do with fish under a frozen lake. Please reply if you think you know what they were doing.
