Six-Years Ago (14-March-2014) — Iceland

Gone to See Iceland 2014 – Winter Photography Workshop. Day 6: Golden Circle.

One of our stops along the “Golden Circle” was to see Strokkur, a geyser in the Haukadalur geothermal area beside the Hvítá River in southwest Iceland. It should be noted that there are many tour buses and lots of people that do the “Golden Circle” every day. Unlike, Old Faithful in Yellowstone, you can get quite close to Strokkur. Also, this geyser erupts more often than Old Faithful. I have several sets of images (slide shows and time-lapse video) from a distance where you can see the people coming and going, and then up close where you can see the clear blue “Bubble Burst” as the geyser erupts.

Thirteen-Years Ago (01-September-2006) — Wyoming

Gone to See America 2006 Driving Tour. Day 7: Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.

After spending the night in Jackson Hole, I started the day at Jenny Lake. It was cold out as I got some pictures of the Grand Tetons and their reflections across the lake. Later on a panorama of the Grand Tetons, and then off to Yellowstone National Park for a quick visit to see Old Faithful geyser. In the afternoon I returned back via Jackson Lake and Jenny Lake to Jackson Hole. All of the images have been re-processed current tools (Topaz JPG to RAW and Capture One Pro).

Nine-Years Ago (02-August-2010) — Utah

Gone to See America August 2010 Road Trip. Day 2: Crystal Geyser near Green River, Utah.

I returned to Crystal Geyser in the morning since I didn’t see it erupt the previous evening. The interesting thing about Crystal Geyser is that it is a cold geyser, powered by carbon dioxide. I did see a minor eruption, then hit the road for Great Basin National Park in Utah. For a bigger eruption check out  11-May-2009.

Five-Years Ago (30-July-2013) — Iceland

Gone to See Iceland 2013 Photography Safari with Mike Hagen. Day 1: Golden Circle Tour.

The Bubble Has Burst. One of our stops for the day was to see Strokkur, a geyser in the Haukadalur geothermal area beside the Hvítá River in southwest Iceland. The geyser erupts every 6-10 minutes, and you can get much closer than Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. It should be noted that there were several tour buses stopped at the site, and lots of folks queued up to view the geyser. I found a spot a bit back on the other side and sent up a tripod to take a series of images with a Nikon D4 camera and 80-400 mm VRII telephoto zoom lens (ISO 100, 80 mm, f/11, 1/320 sec) that were then combined to create a GIF motion video of the bubble bursting.
