Summertime Nature in New Jersey.

I stopped at the nearby Sourland Mountain Preserve to see if any butterflies have arrived. I only found some really tiny butterflies (or are they moths?).  While walking down the gas line trail, I noticed a deer watching me from the bushes. It looks like she has a wound on her head between the eyes that was covered with flies. Back home, there was a wary groundhog, a bull frog in my pond, and a young fawn going through my wildflower garden eating the buds before they can bloom.

Backyard Summertime Nature in New Jersey.

I haven’t done the morning dawn clouds for some time as the sun has been getting up earlier than I have. I did notice some colors this morning and shot some pictures before the colors faded. I noticed that the deer found the flowering Yucca plants, and pretty much ate all of the flowers. ARRG!. I have a new high-resolution DSLR camera to test — used for the first time on today’s walkabout for flowers and frogs.

Backyard Early Summertime in New Jersey.

There were three young fawns with spots in my backyard. Two of the fawns were very rambunctious running after each other as their mothers stayed still and watched. The new bird for the day at the bird feeder was a Hairy Woodpecker. A variety of Lily flowers have been blooming in my neighbor’s yard. The ones I planted last year didn’t make it being taken over by the “mile-a-minute” vine. Individual images from the slide-shows can be viewed here.

Backyard Springtime Nature in New Jersey.

Birds at the bird feeder, and deer close-up. I think the larger bird in the first image is a female red-crested finch. While taking some of these images a deer walked right next to the patio to chew on some grass.

Backyard Springtime Nature in New Jersey.

Deer, lots of birds at the bird feeder, and the remains of the Rhododendron. There was a heavy thunderstorm last night that blew down the remaining section of the rhododendron bush. Last winter I lost the first half of the bush during a heavy snowstorm.
