Thursday (15-February-2018) — New Jersey

Backyard Winter Nature in New Jersey.

There were some interesting clouds in the late afternoon. I took some images with a high-resolution camera/wide-angle lens combination (Nikon D810a camera and 14-24 mm f/2.8 lens) that I haven’t used recently. The first image is a composite of 6 images looking southwest from my patio. I then went out to the middle of the backyard and took a series of 12 portrait and 12 horizontal images to get a 360 degree view of the sky and clouds. It took a lot of processing power to produce these images (Capture One Pro, AutoPano Giga Pro, Photoshop CC, and DxO Color Efex Pro). So much graphics processing that my computer (Microsoft Surface Pro) kept shutting down as the processor kept overheating. Ultimately, I needed to use an external fan to keep the Surface Pro processor from overheating. The images were getting to be over 2 GB in size. Eleven-Years Ago (01-February-2007) — Norway

Gone to See Norway 2007 Family Winter Vacation. Day 12: Hurtigruten MS Kong Harald Norwegian Coastal Voyage Southbound (Bodø to Rørvik).

On the fourth day of the southbound Hurtigruten voyage the ship made six stops: Bodø (02:30-04:15); Ørnes (07:00-07:15); Nesna (11:00-11:15); Sandnessjøen (12:30-13:00); Brønnøysund (15:45-17:00); and Rørvik (20:30-21:30). None of the daytime stops were long enough to get off the ship. For half of the day we were still above the Arctic circle.

Thursday (25-January-2018) — New Jersey

Backyard Winter Dawn Sky in New Jersey.

There were some subtle colors in the sky at dawn. I used a different camera today — Leica T with a wide-angle zoom lens (11-23 mm). There is significant distortion when the lens is used at 11 mm. For comparison, the first horizontal image is at 11 mm, and the 2nd image is a composite of 5 vertical images at 23 mm.

Backyard Winter Nature in New Jersey: Colorful Contrails and Clouds at Dawn.

More of the clouds were contrails this morning. It was a lot warmer this morning with most of the snow gone. The deer ran off as soon as I got outside (barely visible below the tree).
