As I was walking to my car from the Boulder Marriott Residence Inn I saw this brown bird hunting insects. I didn’t recognize it, and had to look it up in my “National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds”. It is a Northern Flicker which is a woodpecker. Image taken with a Nikon D2xs camera and 70-200 mm f/2.8 VR lens (ISO 400, 280 mm, f/4, 1/50 sec).
I saw a report on the news that 6+ inches of rain fell in 12 hours in the mountains above Boulder with flash flooding coming down several of the canyons. A lot more water than when I took this image of Boulder Canyon Falls (Spring 2007). HDR composite of 5 images taken with a Nikon D200 and 12-24 mm f/4 lens (ISO 200, 12 mm, f/4). Snapshots taken during the final Merck-Sirna Boulder site Holiday Celebration at the St. Julien Hotel. The Sirna Boulder site was scheduled to close the following summer after operations were transferred to California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
