Two-Years Ago (08-September-2009) — Alaska

Gone to See North America Road Trip. Day 18: Denali National Park, Alaska. (Day 4: Nikonians ANPAT 9).

Dall Ram standing on the side of the road in Denali National Park. Even while on the bus we were able to get incredibly close to the wildlife. Also, the colors are already changing as this was the second to last week of the season before closing the park for winter.

Back to the present, the Delaware River has gone above flood stage at the Lambertville – New Hope bridge that I usually cross every morning. I had to take the US 202 bridge to cross the Delaware River, and I could see water almost up to the road bed of the the Lambertville – New Hope bridge. The USGS site shows the river peaking at about 16 feet, with flood stage at 13 feet. This is 3 feet higher than my 29-August-2011 post showing the Lambertville Station Inn after Hurricane Irene. The road was blocked so I could not get down and get some pictures near the Inn, but expect that there is water running under the Inn today. The ground is so saturated after Hurricane Irene, that the last several days of heavy rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee is causing even more flooding.

Gone to See North America Road Trip. Day 17: Denali National Park, Alaska. (Day 3: Nikonians ANPAT 9).

View of Mount Denali on a clear day from the Stony Hill Overlook (mile 62). This is on the only road into Denali National Park. Private vehicles are restricted to the first 15 miles into the park. To go beyond that point you either need to walk or take the (hop-on, hop-off) buses provided by the National Park Service.

Gone to See North America Road Trip – Nikonians ANPAT 9. Day 16: Alaska Railroad – Anchorage to Denali National Park, Alaska.

Two years ago today ANPAT 9 had just started. I took this image of Albert while we were on the Alaska Railroad traveling from Anchorage to Denali National Park. I am working on a time-lapse video using the images I took on the train trip.

Monday (05-September-2011) — New Jersey

Backyard Summertime Nature in New Jersey.

This tree fungus was not staying still long enough to keep in focus. I used a feature in Capture One Pro where I selected a color, and then reduced the saturation for the inverse colors (thus B&W + one color). We will see if the Blob is blocking my driveway tomorrow morning.

Five-Years Ago (05-September-2006) — Washington

Gone to See America 2006 Driving Tour. Day 11: North Cascade National Park, Lake Chelan, Washington.

Five years ago I took the Lady of the Lake ferry from Chelan to Stehekin and back. It was about two weeks since I purchased a Nikon D200 camera. This was my first DSLR, and I barely knew how to use it. I took this image of a female mallard with a 80-400 mm VR lens. I really liked the look, and it became one of the reasons that I have been spending much of my time learning how to be a better photographer. There are three images, the original and two crops. My sister also made a print of this image that I have in my dining room.
