Three-Years Ago (14-September-2012) — Belgium

Gone to see Europe. Semester at Sea. Fall 2012 Semester Voyage on the MV Explorer. Day 22: Field Trip to Brugge, Belgium.

Street Photograph of Bicycles in Motion in Bruges. There are lots of bicycle riders in Belgium. My goal was to photograph them with the bicycle and rider in focus with the background in motion to give the viewer the impression that the bicycle was moving. You need to focus on the rider and keep moving the camera to keep the subject centered for a long exposure (~ 1/15 sec). In normal daylight even at f/16 the image is overexposed. You can use a filter. On this day the sky was cloudy, and I could just get away with a 1/15 second exposure. I think I had a 1 in 10 success rate for the day to get these 5 images.

Gone to see Europe. Semester at Sea. Fall 2012 Semester Voyage on the MV Explorer. Day 19: Antwerp and Brussels, Belgium.

Sunrise and Sunset in Antwerp and some random images in Brussels. At one point I was chased away from a chocolate shop for trying to take a picture of their window display. Belgium Waffles and the famous Manneken Pis bronze statue.

Five Years Ago (06-August-2010) — California

Gone to See America August 2010 Road Trip. Day 6: Eastern Sierra Photography Workshop with Michael Mariant. Bodie State Historic Park.

Our third stop on the second day of the Eastern Sierra Photo Workshop at Bodie State Historic park. This is a gold mining ghost town maintained by California in a state of arrested development or decline. There are lots, and lots of folks that visit to photograph the many buildings and artifacts in the park, so you often have to wait to get images free of tourists or other photographers. After a while, I didn’t mind including people in the images to give prospective. This is part three of three sets of images from Bodie.
