Backyard Springtime Nature in New Jersey.

Birds of the Day — Blue Jay, Downy Woodpecker, and Eastern Phoebe. One chick remains in the Eastern Phoebe nest. Waiting to see if it is an Eastern Phoebe or Brown-headed Cowbird.

Lots of frogs in the pond. Pretty noisy late at night and early in the morning.

Spring flowers of the day — Red, Pink, Icelandic, Oriental, and California Poppies. Foxglove, Spiderwort, Love-in-a-Mist, Evening Primrose, Daisy, Sweet William, Lance-leaf Coreopsis, Rhododendron, and Tulip Tree.

Daily Electric Energy Used (47.3 kWh) from meter reading. The daily Solar Electric Energy Produced (67.1 kWh) from meter reading. More sun during the day. A surplus of 19.8 kWh. Two days in a row with power outage.

I am a scientist by training (Eckerd College, BSc; Caltech, Ph.D.). I worked for 27 years as a Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry developing processes to manufacture medicines for human and animal health. I now spend my time as a photographer and world traveler. My interests include the natural world, wildlife, landscapes, sky, and seascapes, travel, and astrophotography. I look for unique ways of viewing the world and presenting my images. I have traveled to over 55 countries in six continents, often on Semester at Sea voyages. While at home in New Jersey, I spend time on home renovation and expansion of a wildflower garden/meadow.
