Gone to See America 2009 Road Trip. Day 12: San Francisco, California to Medford, Oregon — Including the northern section of the Pacific Coast Highway.
I saw a post (on Google+ now gone) by Jason Odell with an image of the Point Arena lighthouse where it is painted white. Seven years ago it wasn’t painted.

There were many wildflowers and lots of color on the side of the road and down near the beaches as I drove up the Pacific Coast Highway. These are just a few. Some native, some invasive.
Early Springtime Nature in Colorado. Rocky Mountain National Park and Boulder Falls.
Back in 2007 I was assigned to do a technology transfer project where I got to live in Boulder, Colorado two weeks a month for ~18 months. This allowed me to spend my weekends discovering Colorado, and see all four seasons of Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a great opportunity to better learn how to use a digital camera. Three of the images were taken in Rocky Mountain National Park – A Red Crossbill (the bird is yellow), Purple Columbine wildflowers at Lily Lake, and a Panorama at Bear Lake (best viewed full screen). I remember that he hike around the lake was a bit difficult as there was still a lot of snow on the trail. The final image is Patrick at Boulder Falls — one of the folks I hired to help with the technology transfer. I wonder what the waterfall looks like now after the flash floods a couple years ago.
Jack-in-the-Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum). Thanks to Mary Sperley for help with the identification. I remember seeing them when growing up in the woods in Minnesota. I didn’t know that I have them in my backyard — and that they are native wildflowers that apparently the deer don’t eat.
South Texas Birding Photo Safari with Jason Odell Day 3.
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher (Texas Bird of Paradise) about to take flight in southern Texas. Image taken with a Nikon Df camera and 80-400 mm VRII lens (ISO 400, 400 mm, f/5.6, 1/2000 sec).
