I am a scientist by training (Eckerd College, BSc; Caltech, Ph.D.). I worked for 27 years as a Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry developing processes to manufacture medicines for human and animal health. I now spend my time as a photographer and world traveler. My interests include the natural world, wildlife, landscapes, sky, and seascapes, travel, and astrophotography. I look for unique ways of viewing the world and presenting my images. I have traveled to over 55 countries in six continents, often on Semester at Sea voyages. While at home in New Jersey, I spend time on home renovation and expansion of a wildflower garden/meadow.

  1. Sorry I wasn't around yesterday… I had a 20 hour stay at the local hospital…  They gave me a stress test, pronounced me good and sent me home…  In this case no news is good news…

  2. +Gailen Mapes In the end good news, but having to stay in a hospital for that long can cause stress. I had a good time yesterday and tried to keep up. I hope I didn't miss too many. Completed cataract surgery on both eyes and I can see better than I have for years, but didn't know it. Whites are white on my computer monitor and I no longer have to fight the white balance. It will still be a few weeks of eye drops before I can get final prescription glasses. And it is now way too bright outside. I am going to be wearing strong sunglasses, and need to figure out how that figures into my outdoor photography workflow – since most of my images are outdoors.
