Summertime Nature in New Jersey: Sourland Mountain Preserve.

I went for a walk at the Sourland Mountain Preserve in New Jersey looking for butterflies. Instead, I was buzzed with a multitude of Robber Flies. There weren’t that many just a day ago so wonder if they just hatched I would not like to be bitten by one of these guys. Backyard Springtime Nature in New Jersey.

Carpenter Bee in Flight. Image taken with a Nikon Df camera and 300 mm f/2.8 VR lens (ISO 100, 300 mm, f/2.8, 1/2000 sec). This is a crop from the full image. I did this hand-held, and had to manually focus. So lots of out of focus images to get one I liked.

Indoor Autumn Nature in New Jersey: Large Cricket in My Basement.

A new indoor house pet (pest?). I never knew that a cricket could be this big. It had been getting noisy down in my basement. I added the ruler for scale. The radon in the basement must be causing them to mutate 🙂 .

Backyard Nighttime Nature in New Jersey.

The Fireflies Are Back. Backyard Spring Nature in New Jersey. Composite of 600 images taken with a D4 camera and 200 mm f/2 VR lens (ISO 800, 200 mm, f/8, 30 sec). Raw images processed with Capture One Pro 8 and Photoshop CC. The images were combined using in Photoshop using Scripts/Statistics/Maximum. Next time need to increase the ISO or increase the aperture by at least 2 stops.
