Gone to See Norway 2007 Family Vacation. Day 4: Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage Traveling North.

Ålesund winter panorama from the Aksla viewpoint. It was a bright clear day so several of us climbed the 418 steps to get to the top. The restaurant Fjellstua at the top was closed for the winter. You can see the MS Kong Harald docked below.

Wintertime in New Jersey. Neighborhood Maple Syrup Boil Down.

Sap from the Maple trees was running 6 weeks early this year. The Maple trees were tapped and the collection of sap started on New Years Day. Over 100 gallons of sap needs to be boiled down and concentrated to make 2 gallons of maple syrup.

New Jersey Winter Nature: Sourland Mountain Preserve

A flock of European Starlings roosting on a tree. I guess that they stay around for the winter.

Indoor Winter Nature in New Jersey — Western Conifer Bug.

I originally thought these were Stink Bugs, which also try to come indoors once the temperatures drops outside. They have similar colors, but the Western Conifer Bug is more elongated. I do wonder if the Conifer Bug is the reason many of my pine trees died, and had to be removed. Image taken with a Fuji X-T2 camera and 60 mm f/2.4 macro lens (ISO 200, 60 mm, f/2.4, 1/60 sec) with the pop-up flash.

Wintertime Nature in New Jersey.

“If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” A winter walk at the Sourland Mountain Preserve. Image taken with a Nikon D300 camera and 18-200 mm lens (ISO 200, 90 mm, f/5.6, 1/125 sec).
