Backyard Spring Nature in New Jersey.

Early purple crocuses flowers from across the street. This is a composite of many images using the focus stacking program from Helicon Focus. A little bit bright, and requires calm conditions (little or no wind).

The purple crocuses are always an early sign that spring is coming. My neighbors across the street have a south-facing wall so theirs are always the first ones to appear.

Purple crocus blooms peaking above the fall leaves. A sure sign that spring is coming. Image taken with a Nikon D3s camera and 85 mm f/1.4 lens (ISO 200, 85 mm, f/2.8, 1/200 sec). (David J Mathre)

Backyard Winter Nature in New Jersey: Spring is Coming!!!

When going to mail a letter today, I noticed that the Purple Crocuses were in bloom along a south-facing rock wall. Early, but not as early as last year 17-February-2012. Last year I used the Nikon 1 V1 camera, this year the new Nikon 1 V2 camera. This is the first time I used the 60 mm f/2.8 macro lens (with the FT1 adapter) with a Nikon 1 camera.

Backyard Winter Nature in New Jersey: Spring is Coming!!!

When I got home today, I noticed that these Purple Crocuses were in bloom across the street. I think that this is the earliest that I have seen these blooming. In addition, some of the Daffodils are also starting to bloom.

For those wondering why I have not posted recently, things have been busy at work.

Backyard Winter Nature in New Jersey — Spring is Coming!!!

The Purple Crocuses have started blooming across the street. This is a good sign that spring is coming. In order to get a deeper depth of field (DOF) I took several images each with slightly different focus points, and then combined the images using Helicon Focus get the composite image. The focus range was just around the flowers, keeping the background leaves out of focus.
