Autumn Backyard Nature in New Jersey.

The Troll family found some large mushrooms growing in the black wood mulch, and decided to have an autumn harvest party.

Two different types of frogs. A well camouflaged Pickerel frog in the yard, and a Green frog (Kermit) in the pond. Apparently, the Pickerel frog is the only poisonous frog in North America.

Birds of the day viewed at the birdfeeder and in the backyard: Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Blue Jay, Black-capped Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, House Finch, American Goldfinch, Chipping Sparrow, Common Grackle. In addition to the Canna, the hummingbird was interested in Gladiolus, and Radish flowers.

The local Fawns, still with spots are getting bigger. Soon, I expect them to be raiding my gardens.

Birds of the Day — Gray Catbird, Brown-headed Cowbird, Northern Cardinal, and unidentified immature birds. The Eastern Phoebe has been spending time on the nest. When it is away the nest has also been visited by a female Brown-headed Cowbird and a Carolina Wren.

Spring flowers of the day — Red, Pink, Oriental, and California Poppies. Love-in-a-mist, Blue Chicory, Daisy, Impatiens, Delphinium, Larkspur, Partridge Pea, Evening Primrose, Sweet William, and Lance-leaf Coreopsis .
