Gone to See Europe 2014. Day 58: Semester at Sea, Summer 2014 Semester Voyage. Saint Petersburg, Russia.
While reviewing images I came upon this image I took when we were departing Saint Petersburg. It was a ship, Dimtry Varvarian docked along the long port. When I zoomed in during post processing found some interesting subjects.
Gone to See Europe. Semester at Sea Spring 2013 Enrichment Voyage on the MV Explorer. Day 45: At Sea between Stockholm and Copenhagen.
Late night or early in the morning (hard to tell this far north when there isn’t much darkness at night) I looked out my cabin window on the MV Explorer and saw the electric blue Noctilucent clouds. I read about them before (http://www.spaceweather.com/), but had never seen them. The clouds are ice crystals that are very high that you can only see for a short time when the sun is below the horizon. One theory is the crystals are nucleated when micro-meteors pass through the upper atmosphere. We were in the Baltic Sea traveling from Stockholm to Copenhagen and the sun doesn’t set until very late I set up a camera in my cabin and and started taking pictures.(Nikon D4 camera, 28 mm f/1.8 lens (ISO 200 or 800, 28 mm, f/1.8, 1 sec)).
Gone to See Europe. Semester at Sea Spring 2013 Enrichment Voyage on the MV Explorer. Ultimate Travel Photography Workshop IV with Michael Mariant. Day 29: Dover, England.
Arriving in Dover, England on the MV Explorer. Image taken with a Leica X2 camera (ISO 100, 24 mm, f/4.5, 1/125 sec).
Gone to See the World. Semester at Sea Spring 2016 Voyage on the MV World Odyssey. Day 65: At Sea, Indian Ocean.
Back at sea, crossing the Indian Ocean from Mauritius to South Africa. Yet another amazing dawn and sunrise. What else can I say? Best to view the panorama in full screen mode. The color of the clouds is real changing from a pastel pink/lavender to a fiery yellow/orange.
Gone to See Patagonia 2015 Photography Tour with Thom Hogan. Day 9: Estancia Cristina, Argentina.
Early in the morning I went for a walkabout at Estancia Cristina. I was rewarded by the sky being lit up at dawn. I am always amazed by the colors of the clouds at dawn and dusk in Patagonia. Later in the morning we went for a horse ride to the glacier. Here they required helmets when riding the horses (which was good). A few images of silhouettes with lenticular clouds, and one of a rainbow over the glacier.
