Gone to See America 2013. Crystal Geyser near Green River, Utah.

While driving from Colorado to New Mexico, I made a stop in Green River, Utah. I wanted to spend a day visiting the Crystal Geyser. This is a unique cold geyser powered by underground carbon dioxide and not underground geothermal heat. I saw Crystal Geyser erupt twice before in 2009, and 2010 and hoped to see it erupt again. Unfortunately, the eruptions were on this day were very small. Just slight increases in the flow of water coming out of the ground. I spent most of the day at the site just waiting. I set up three cameras to record any action. One camera (Nikon N1V1) was in the car, and the other two closer to the eruption site (a steel tube sticking out of a hole in the ground. I also took images of the rust-stained Travertine that formed from water released from the geyser.

Gone to See America October 2008 Road Trip. Yosemite National Park.

I arrived in Yosemite National Park a day before the beginning of ANPAT-8 and spent the afternoon driving around Yosemite Valley. A storm had just gone through and there were a lot of low clouds in the valley. The 3000 foot tall granite rocks surrounding the valley are impressive. Then realizing the small specks going up El Capitan are rock climbers.

Backyard Autumn Yard Work in New Jersey.

After all the recent rain, I am trying to catch up with a lot of yard work. I just received over 300 daffodil, crocus, and tulip bulbs. I plan to plant these in the bed just behind my patio, but first need to clear the weeds and wildflowers from the bed. I have an electric fence to protect the area from deer, but may need to put some type of cover over the bed to protect it from the squirrels. I recorded the days activity using a Garmin VIRB 360 camera mounted on my lawn tractor.

Autumn Backyard Night Sky Over New Jersey.

This was the second night in a row that we had clear skies, so I set up a Nikon D810a camera with a 8-15 mm fisheye lens (ISO 200, 9 mm, f/8, 120 sec) to record the night sky. I still have an issue with condensation on the big lens. I may need to rig up a tape heater for the lens. The other thing I am seeing with a very wide-angle (9 mm) lens, and a relatively high-resolution sensor (35 megapixel) is the size of the star images is very small. I think I got better star trail images when I was using 12-16 megapixel sensors).  The next clear night, I plan to set up a side-by-side comparison.
