Backyard Summertime Nature in New Jersey.

The deer keep sniffing around my wildflower meadow. There are several young fawns with spots that pass through the yard with their herd every day. I don’t mind when they eat the grass. Many more wildflower pictures, several with bumblebees working the flowers. I was pleasantly surprised to see a Clearwing Hummingbird Moth. It is smaller than others that I have seen, so it may be the Snowberry Clearwing Moth. The other interesting thing I saw in the garden were Japanese beetles that appear to be eating the hated “mile-a-minute” vine that has become invasive. As long as the Japanese beetles don’t eat too many of the wildflower plants, I am going to leave them alone.

  1. Very nice macro images, David. I like them. BTW, I will soon be in Virginia permanently just outside of Richmond. We move in third week of July to our new home. I am looking forward for all the east coast venues for photography.

    1. John, thanks for the view and comment. Actually, none are macro — but the same effect with a telephoto zoom doing my daily walkabout in my backyard wildflower garden/meadow. Each day I try to go out with a different camera/lens combo — and some days it is with a macro lens. The clearwing moth made my day. I am now totally committed for the kitchen renovation — the old cabinets are out, the new cabinets are ordered, and the new appliances arrived. Keeping me busy. I take images every day, but don’t always have time to process and post. Once you are in VA, what are your plans for the eclipse in August? At one point I was thinking of North Carolina, not necessarily to look at the sun and moon, but to experience the impact on the wildlife as the sky gets dark. DJM
