Gone to See America 2006 Driving Tour. Day 5: Devils Tower National Monument, Wyoming; Badlands National Park, South Dakota.
Devils Tower National Monument. Image taken with a Nikon D200 camera and 80-400 mm VR lens (ISO 100, 200 mm, f/5.6, 1/400 sec). JPG image processed with Capture One Pro, and converted to B&W with NIK/Google Silver Efex Pro.
The freaky thing is that I watched “Close Encounters” at the motel I stayed at the night before, and hadn’t remembered that part of the movie was filmed at Devils Tower.

I plan to stop at Devils Tower on my return trip from Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons end of September.
+John Roach I've been to Devils Tower twice since then (actually 3 times, but gave up on the third since it was motorcycle week at Sturges, and there was a line bikers nearly a mile long waiting to go in). It is a bit off of the interstate, so make sure you allow enough time. It is definitely worth doing the hike all the way around the tower. I want to go back some time and do a night image of the tower with the milky way in the background.
