Description near the statue: “O Mary Conceived Without Sin Pray For Us That Have Recourse To Thee” This Statue was Erected the Marian Year 1954 By the Workers of Alexandra Road and Their Friends. In Honour of the Blessed Lady.

The detail of the drapping is beautiful. Is the material clay? Just saw the snake! Aunt Mary
I thought it was Patrick that got rid of Irelands snakes? Guess it is a symbol of Satan, but still strange to see in country that is not supposed to have any snakes.
The previous two Semester at Sea voyages, I always took a bus from the ship into Dublin. I noticed the statue several times, but never had a good position to take an image. This year I decided to walk from where the ship was docked into the city. I was surprised to find that the statue is 60 years old. I never saw the snake from the bus. I am guessing that it is clay/porcelain and may periodically get repainted/restored. +Joan Mathre+Mary Sperley
