Gone to See Antarctica 2014/2015. Hurtigruten Christmas Voyage. Day 16: Antarctic Peninsula.

Gentoo Penguin on a rock nest built with pebbles. Underneath is a chick that just hatched on New Year’s Day, and a second egg where the beak just appeared and is about to hatch. I am a scientist by training (Eckerd College, BSc; Caltech, Ph.D.). I worked for 27 years as a Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry developing processes to manufacture medicines for human and animal health. I now spend my time as a photographer and world traveler. I have traveled to over 55 countries in six continents, often on Semester at Sea voyages. While at home in New Jersey, I spend time on home renovation and expansion of a wildflower garden/meadow.

  1. Good picture. I have been there. For me the Gentoo Penguin is a metaphor for the middle class human being who does what he has to do with undaunted faith, never questioning family, work, destiny, just gets it done every day, and loves his mate.
