Moon, Palm Tree Silhouettes, and Orange Contrail Clouds at Sunset

Another case of “the best camera is the one with you”. I’d never seen contrails lined up like this before with the added bonus of happening just after the sun set. View from the Old Northeast section of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Foggy Morning in St. Petersburg.

When I woke up this morning and looked out from the balcony of my room at the Vinoy hotel it was foggy. I couldn’t even see the St. Petersburg Pier that I had been taking images for a time-lapsed video the previous night. I had hoped to go to Fort DeSoto park for both sunrise and bird photography today — but it was way too foggy. Initially I could barely see the palm trees. At 11 AM, I still couldn’t see the Pier.

St. Petersburg Pier Holiday Lighting from the Vinoy Hotel.

I was staying a the Vinoy Hotel and had a window/balcony that looked out over Tampa bay. Over the holidays, the St. Petersburg Pier, which looks like an inverted pyramid is lit up with colored lights that change every few minutes. I am really liking the resolution with the new Nikon D3x.

Gone to See Florida 2007 Road Trip Day 4: A Busy Christmas Day

Early morning sunrise and night-time photography at the Vinoy Hotel.ย  Wildlife photography at the Weedon Island Nature Preserve. Lots of birds, a crab spider, and how often do you see, let alone catch a “flying fish” in midair. Then the extended Mathre family Christmas Day celebration.

Gone to See Florida 2007 Road Trip Day 3: Fort De Soto Park

I drove to Fort De Soto Park to find some birds to try out a 200 mm f/2 VR lens with a TC-EII 2.0x teleconverter. Other than this turkey vulture that wanted to pose, the rest of the birds seemed to be on a siesta and were in hiding. I should have gone earlier in the morning…
