I was driving back from Rocky Mountain National Park on CO 7 and stopped to take some pictures of Longs Peak. Longs Peak at 14,255 feet is one of 54 mountains in Colorado over 14,000 feet. Several of the images were combined to afford a wider panorama including Estes Cone to the right. Estes Cone looks to be almost the same height as Longs Peak, but is only 11,006 feet.
The main road on the east side of the park was open so I spent the day. It was cold and windy, and a new storm appeared to be building. It has been interesting to watch the seasons in the National Park.
Although the season is officially still Autumn, at the higher elevations of Colorado it is winter. I drove to Rocky Mountain National Park on a sunny Sunday morning. It is only an hour from Boulder, Colorado. The first stop was to get a picture of the “Chapel on the Rock” with Mt. Meeker in the background. Then it was into the park to get more pictures. Winter view of the Big Thompson River in Moraine Park; Winter Trail to Storm Pass along road to Bear Lake; and a Winter Panorama of Longs Peak taken along Colorado Highway 7
Rocky Mountain National Park: “Winter Play Area” in Hidden Valley
Although the pass across Rocky Mountain National Park closes for the winter, much of the lower elevations in the park are kept open. It is only an hour drive from where I am working in Boulder, Colorado. A couple of images taken with a Nikon D300 camera and 35 mm f/2 lens at the “Hidden Valley Winter Play Area”.
