Two-Years Ago (13-January-2016) — Pacific Ocean

Gone to See the World. Semester at Sea Spring 2016 Voyage on the MV World Odyssey. Day 9: Crossing the Pacific Ocean From Hawaii to Japan.

Images from dawn to sunset from the deck of the MV World Odyssey. One thing that I noted on this voyage was the very red color of the sun at sunrise and sunset as we crossed the Pacific ocean. I wasn’t expecting smog in the middle of the ocean. The closer we got to Asia, it became even more pronounced. I normally do not try to take pictures of the sun without a very dark filter, especially through a telephoto lens. However, on this voyage the atmosphere near the horizon became that filter. For the two panorama images there are a few artifacts where the images were stitched together. The image was dark and the ship was moving, and rocking due to the waves and wind.

Backyard Winter Sky in New Jersey: Contrails at Dawn.

This is an in-camera panorama taken with a Fuji X-T1 camera. I don’t like the auto white balance applied and baked into to the jpg image. This limits the color corrections that can be applied during process. In full daylight the color correction is much better. I should have taken raw images.

Gone to See Antarctica 2014/5:  Day 9 – At Sea on the Hurtigruten MS Fram in the South Atlantic Ocean

Dawn colors from the deck of the Hurtigruten MS Fram between the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) and South Georgia Island. Views like this are why I get up early to view the sky at dawn while at sea. This is a composite of 16 image taken with a Fuji X-T1 camera.

House Renovation: Outside Panorama and Little Planet Views

Two-years ago, I set up the Mindrain Astro motion control head to take 360 degree images of my backyard to document some of the exterior house renovation project.  I converted these into time-lapsed videos. I’ve now reprocessed the images to create 360 degree Panorama and Little Planet views of the work in progress.
