Travel Souvenirs and Selfie
I saw this sand painting while visiting the temples in Bagan, Burma (Myanmar). I am not often tempted to purchase souvenirs, but the birds on the tree reminded me of a Navajo “Tree of Life” wool rug. We were only part way through the Spring 2016 Semester at Sea voyage when I purchased the sand painting and I wasn’t sure it would make the trip without being damaged . Two months later when I finally got home, the painting was still in good condition. I had it framed locally using non-reflective glass, and it is now next to the Navajo “Tree of Life” wool rug.
Every Year or so, the Beard Falls Off
Sunset Panorama over from Yavapai Point near Sedona, Arizona.
The sunset panorama was created as a composite of 11 images taken with a Nikon 1 V2 camera and 32 mm f/1.2 lens (ISO 200, 32 mm, f/5.6, 1/40 sec). The raw images were processed with Capture One Pro and the panorama generated using AutoPano Giga Pro. The individual images can be viewed in the following slide show.
Gone to See America 2013 Road Trip – Day 17.
Nikonians ANPAT 13 – Day 2.
Liberty State Park, Ellis Island National Monument, and Statue of Liberty
A friend stopped by on his way to the fall Nikonians ANPAT trip in Maine. We spent the day doing a pre-ANPAT visit to Liberty State Park, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty.
I stopped at the Arthur Morgan school near Burnsville, North Carolina to pick up three folks that spent eight weeks attending the the 2017 Arete project. We then traveled north on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Walkabout in an urban farm & garden in St. Petersburg, Florida. After below normal rain at the beginning of the year, they are now in the daily monsoon season — with heavy thunderstorms and rain every afternoon. My troll got a chance to get out and sit on a large mushroom. The red chicken manages the location, as well as providing an egg every morning.
Day 3 of 15. Semester at Sea Spring 2010 Enrichment Voyage.
A dramatic sunrise, and then a rainbow over the Atlantic Ocean before arriving in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We then spent the day doing a walkabout through the San Juan old city.
Day 2 of 15. Semester at Sea, Spring 2010 Enrichment Voyage.
The first sunrise on this voyage. One of many reasons I got hooked on taking sunrise and sunset images while at sea.
I was about to leave for a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park and saw this brown bird with spots outside the Residence Inn where I was staying in Boulder. I got a couple of pictures, but didn’t know what it was at the time. I finally figured out that it was a Norther Flicker. A woodpecker that feeds on the ground. I then went for a hike in the Longs Peak section of Rocky Mountain National Park. A few images — a squirrel, a small white wildflower, and a purple crocus wildflower. Many more images for another day.
Semester at Sea, Spring 2013 Enrichment Voyage. Day 32 of 52. While waiting for sunset crossing the North Sea there were a number of Northern Gannets following and leading the ship. I think the birds use the ship to provide lift as they hunt for fish being disturbed by the wake of the ship. There was this one Northern Gannet that was flying with one foot out. I don’t know if it was injured or was using the foot to provide drag? It is amazing that these birds spend almost all year at sea — only spending time on land to breed and raise their young.
