Backyard Springtime Nature in New Jersey.

This evening when washing dishes I saw this young buck out the kitchen window checking to see how close he could get to my garden. I quickly got my Fuji X-T2 camera with the 100-400 mm OIS lens to get some pictures. The optical image stabilization (OIS) for this lens really works. The light levels were going down, and I didn’t increase the ISO so these images were taken at 1/15 to 1/45 second — all hand held.

Four-Years Ago (27-May-2013) — North Sea

Gone to See Europe. Semester at Sea Spring 2013 Enrichment Voyage on the MV Explorer. Day 31: At Sea, North Sea.

Several Northern Gannets followed the ship as we crossed the North Sea. I think the birds use the ship to provide lift as they hunt for fish being disturbed by the wake of the ship. One of the Northern Gannet flew with one foot out. I don’t know if it was injured or was using the foot to provide drag? It is amazing that these birds spend almost all year at sea — only spending time on land to breed and raise their young. Image taken with a Nikon D4 camera and 80-400 mm VR II lens(ISO 180, 400 mm, f/5.6, 1/400 sec).

Five-Years Ago (27-May-2012) — New Jersey

Out of My Comfort Zone.

The second day of a Studio Lighting Workshop with Mike Hagen. I had never done photography with studio lighting before, and I don’t do portraits. Mike hired a model for the workshop. One of my best images of the day was taken with a Nikon 1 V1 camera…

Seven-Years Ago (27-May-2010) — Atlantic Ocean

Gone to See the Caribbean Islands. Semester at Sea Spring 2010 Enrichment Voyage on the MV Explorer. Ultimate Travel Photography Workshop with Michael Mariant. Day 1: At Sea.

After spending the day in Nassau, Bahama we embarked on the MV Explorer for San Juan, Puerto Rico. At sunset, we saw a glimmer of a “green flash” as the sun went below the horizon.

Ten-Years Ago (27-May-2007) — Colorado

Springtime Nature in Colorado.

I went for a hike on the Wild Basin Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park. Lots of wildflowers, and this stupid bumblebee that liked my carbon fiber tripod.
