David Mathre Photography

Welcome to my Images of the Day Photo blog. My goal is to post images from each day of the year going back to 2006 when I got my first DSLR camera. Images I post on Google+ are also forwarded to this Photo blog. I am a retired chemist that worked nearly thirty years in the Pharmaceutical industry. I took my first DSLR camera on a road trip across the United States, and became hooked, with my new passion becoming a photographer. I now spend all my time traveling and taking pictures. Since then I have visited over 50 countries, many on Semester at Sea voyages. My photographic interests include travel, the natural world, landscapes, and photographic techniques. I always want to learn something new and the only way to become better is to learn from mistakes.

Today — New Jersey

+Dieter Fröhling Reminded me that the moon was full. The sky was crystal clear last night and early this morning. I woke up at 03:30 AM, and took images with six different camera/lens combinations.

(1) Nikon D810a camera and 80-400 mm VRII lens (ISO 200, 400 mm, f/16, 1/125 sec).
(2) Nikon D3x camera and 600 mm f/4 VR lens (ISO 100, 600 mm, f/5.6, 1/800 sec).
(3) Leica X-T1 camera and 100-400 mm OIS lens (ISO 200, 400 mm, f/16, 1/250 sec).
(4) Nikon 1 V3 camera and 70-300 mm VR lens (ISO 200, 300 mm, f/16, 1/200 sec).
(5) Nikon D800 camera and 400 mm f/4 VR lens (ISO 100, 500 mm, f/5.6, 1/800 sec).
(6) Nikon D800 camera and 500 mm f/4 VR lens + TC-E 20 II teleconverter (ISO 100, 1000 mm, f/8, 1/250 sec).

The images were cropped so they would be the same size. I like (1) and (2) the best, but am interested in comments.

  1. Maybe better weather conditions. Had by my D800 and the Tamron Zoom f8 / f11 and at 100ISO around (spot metering on the moon disc) 1/200.
About that camera show. Nope. Every pic is for me a great shot and usable. Interesting to see it is not the cam.

But have all pics in LR to see in 100% there would be more detail with a D8x0 and the 400/2,8 (what i had learned that that lens is something better than the 200/2 (Was the best pic of all 60.000 of the D200 when on photo show had the 200/2 for shooting 🙂 ) )
