David Mathre Photography

Welcome to my Images of the Day Photo blog. My goal is to post images from each day of the year going back to 2006 when I got my first DSLR camera. Images I post on Google+ are also forwarded to this Photo blog. I am a retired chemist that worked nearly thirty years in the Pharmaceutical industry. I took my first DSLR camera on a road trip across the United States, and became hooked, with my new passion becoming a photographer. I now spend all my time traveling and taking pictures. Since then I have visited over 50 countries, many on Semester at Sea voyages. My photographic interests include travel, the natural world, landscapes, and photographic techniques. I always want to learn something new and the only way to become better is to learn from mistakes.

Back Home — Rhododendron’s in Bloom.
.
My sister told me that she had coupled a Nikon TC-E 20 II (2x) teleconverter with a 105 mm f/2.8 VR macro lens and has been getting some good macro images. I thought that I had previously tried coupling a teleconverter with the 105 macro and that it didn’t work, but decided to try again. It worked. In this case a Nikon TC-E 20 III (2x) teleconverter with a 105 mm f/2.8 VR macro lens. When I got home after the ISE/SAA Enrichment Voyage to Central America and the Panama Canal I found the Rhododendrons around the house in bloom. To qualify, the only flowers were above level that the local deer could reach last winter.
.
I am going to need to do a test between the 105 mm f/2.8 VR macro lens with the 2x TC vs. the 200 mm f/4 macro lens.

Glad you tested it out. I have been very pleased with the combination. (I need to get the TC back from Hans so I can go out shooting again!)
