David Mathre Photography

Welcome to my Images of the Day Photo blog. My goal is to post images from each day of the year going back to 2006 when I got my first DSLR camera. Images I post on Google+ are also forwarded to this Photo blog. I am a retired chemist that worked nearly thirty years in the Pharmaceutical industry. I took my first DSLR camera on a road trip across the United States, and became hooked, with my new passion becoming a photographer. I now spend all my time traveling and taking pictures. Since then I have visited over 50 countries, many on Semester at Sea voyages. My photographic interests include travel, the natural world, landscapes, and photographic techniques. I always want to learn something new and the only way to become better is to learn from mistakes.

Enrichment Voyage: Central America & the Panama Canal. Nikonians Ultimate Travel Workshop 2011 (UTW-II) Day 3 – Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

We arrived at Cabo San Lucas early in the morning well before sunrise. My other post for the day documents the sun rising. The shadow self portrait was taken duing the sunrise session.

Rather than docking, the ship anchored off shore and then used the life-boats as tenders to transport the passengers to and from shore. There were some swells that rocked the ship making the transfer from the M/V Explorer to the tender difficult, and a very slow process. Folks that were supposed to leave the ship at 7 AM didn’t leave until after 9 AM.  Durring the day I took a series of images of the Arch at Land’s End as viewed from my cabin window, with a Norwegin Troll sitting at the window.
