David Mathre Photography

Welcome to my Images of the Day Photo blog. My goal is to post images from each day of the year going back to 2006 when I got my first DSLR camera. My photographic interest include Travel, the Natural World, Landscapes, and Photographic Techniques. I try to include information for each image as to where, when, why and how the image was processed. Most of the images are available for purchase -- either as prints or rights managed (Clicking on an image brings you to the ShepArt Studio Team Site). Comments about the images or this site are always welcome. DJM

Work in Progress. Comparison of HDR Programs.

A comparison of different HDR (high dynamic range) programs for rendering a series of images 7 images taken at different exposures (+3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3 EV). The programs compared are Photoshop CS5, Photomatix Pro, and Nik HDR Efex Pro. I should note that I am not able to run the Nik HDR Efex Pro on my desktop computer as it causes Photoshop to crash. I had to use a different computer to process the images using the Nik HDR Efex program. The images were taken during a workshop in Hawaii in 2007 with a Nikon D2xs and 105 mm f/2.8 VR macro lens.

To be honest, I like the original the best! I’m not sure this is a good example photo to show off how HDR programs can be used to “recover” what might have been a hard shot in the first place.
